Got this for £650 off amazon a while ago, and I have to tell you, it’s a superb offering for the financial outlay. Type c charging, a 120HZ display with very low response times, 100% sRGB and a 55W 3050 Ti for what is a thin and light notebook is hard to overlook when you observe competitors. Actually nice to game on, fans aren’t obtrusive at low to moderate load and don’t reproduce any annoying whines. Trackpad is Mylar and the clickers are decent but cheap feeling, some units may have rattling. Keyboard probably the Achilles heel for me, low profile but harder than I’d like to depress. If you’re like me and are used to the Thinkpad style keyboard you’ll be disappointed with the one equipped here, but otherwise it’s no big deal. I can’t actually think of a better competitor for this price.

Yeah, thinkbook keyboards can't match thinkpads.
My old X260 keyboard is just great

The main problem with this is Lenovo.

If you have any issues with this you'll get little help from Lenovo.

I had 2 faulty monitors. I did eventually get Lenovo to collect them for replacements, but they've lost one of them and won't answer any emails I send them.

One of the monitors I sent them 2 weeks ago went missing in transit or at their service centre. They sent me an email finally tonight with an invoice charge of £266 (£67 more than I paid for the monitor) to replace it claiming it was me who damage it. It was working perfectly apart from the flickering when I sent it back to them in all the original packaging.

I've now reported Lenovo to the ICO for breach of GDPR as they won't provide a Subject Access Request for my case, which is illegal.

    Lenovo are liars.

Read their Trustpilot reviews before you decide to buy.

I already had my complaint about Lenovo upheld by the Advertising Standards Authority earlier this year.

Cheers mate, I replied to your other comment thinking you meant Lenovo laptops in general.
But here, it looks like you meant their customer service.
Other peeps seem to mention that too.

The rtx 3060 on that deal runs at 140w. The whole laptop on this page runs at 135w. So the 3060 laptop is going to have significantly better performance than this

Had me all excited until the soldered RAM
    Minstadave's avatar
16GB isn't anywhere near as limiting as 8GB. For £600 I wouldn't let that worry me at all.
  5. Alex_H's avatar
Depends what your priorities are. The Asus is an incredibly thin and light laptop with a beret oled screen than this.

The Lenovo will be thicker, heavier but also more powerful due to the GPU.

Could someone confirm what year this model was released?
    hotukdealz's avatar
    I think 2022

This sounds like a great deal for someone like myself who's looking to replace my pc which I normally use to do work, but then the also use it for the odd gaming too. However I'm sure my pc uses a lot more power compared to this Lenovo laptop.

What kind of framerate and resolution can I expect to get in some of the games? Thinking of GTA, Fortnite, League of Legends etc.
    dark_shadow's avatar
This was my use-case and in my case my pc was using 4-5x. It's already paid for a lot of itself. You'll get good FPS in medium settings. I got the last Legion 5 offer at 499 and on my 34" widescreen its played Alan wake 2 fine.
  9. cookied's avatar
If only they did these in 13or14"

    Looks excellent to me.
    Great CPU
    Discrete GPU
    Memory and storage are okay.
    High res, IPS, 120Hz display.

    What's the catch?
    vjr16's avatar
I think the only catch is the processor being one from 2022. But I think the price factors that in. Great find

That is a stonking deal for the price!

Hmm I bought the gaming laptop from last year from Costco £750 I’ve never opened it. Don’t ask me why I bought it. Would Costco still accept a return?
    sequeezer's avatar
Think there’s a good chance giving their great customer service and return policy
  13. bushy77's avatar
Bought. I missed the LG Gram but this is cheaper with similar speed

I have a T480 with i7, 1TB/32GB and dedicated GPU, more than adequate for my needs. It's excellent for desk working, typing and docking with a USB-C monitor, but it is a bit hefty so much less enjoyable for using casually on the couch. In these situations I find myself wishing it had a better screen, was lighter and didn't get so warm! No complaints with performance/build quality but worth considering practicalities.

Which is likely to be sturdier? I love the ThinkPad I have and don't like the flimsy plastic body laptops I have. Some reviews for Acer say the keyboard gets worn very quickly. Thanks.
    TechFiend's avatar
Which Thinkpad have you got? Most likely the ThinkPad is sturdier in all honesty.
  19. pet2000's avatar
Better than the 17.3" listed before because has a backlit keyboard but screen is too small for me. Still, if you need 16" it's hot.
    sheffield788's avatar
You must be joking. This is not better because it has backlit. This is better because the specs are miles ahead of the one you've mentioned. There are absolutely no similarities between the 2. The price reflects this. The other one is a so-so deal. This one will get the heat. (edited)

Had an IdeaPad 5 and the hinge broke off the bezel within 1.5 years.
    Enterpart's avatar
same but this is a different hinge, that was connected on two points, this connects in the middle along a bar.
  21. zeoxzy's avatar
Would surely be worth spending a bit extra for a rtx 4050.
    Paulie9952's avatar
2gb extra VRAM and Frame gen for 50 quid extra is worth it although even 6gb is going to struggle these days.
  22. sheffield788's avatar
    Voted hot, great deal.

    This is an unreal deal
  24. canitrunbattlefield's avatar
Amazing price for the spec... Can anyone comment on how many hours will the battery last?
    Flyer01's avatar
If it had 1200 nits, not very long.
  25. SPLE22's avatar
    My phone is 1200 nits

My car headlights are 200000 nits.
  26. grahamchalker's avatar
No ethernet, why they always take this away is beyond me.
    Minstadave's avatar
Never really bothered me much, it's a bulky connector that hardly anyone uses and if you do use it it's likely in one location and you can just leave the dongle there.
  27. AJ321's avatar
    Is it a gamimg paptop
    matth20111's avatar
Yes it would be good from gaming, not the best but it is a very good deal.
  28. CAL23's avatar
It’s pathetic that soldered RAM is still a thing in 2024
    TechFiend's avatar
It's becoming more common if anything. Hopefully, it'll change back to swappable.

    It is pathetic. (edited)

    hi guys

During the first 2 years of Costco warranty would you be dealing with Costco if any problems arise or with Lenovo themselves?
The other question I would be having is about the graphic card.
I am not a gamer, but the dedicated graphic card would be usefull for running additional 2 monitors.
If I didn't need to connect any additional monitors, is it possible and easy to somehow disconnect that dedicated graphic card, to save on battery power?

    Thanks
    zombie_unchained's avatar
In most lenovo, they allow you to disable dedicated graphics card in bios.
But you don't need to . When not in use it will not consume any power.
  30. mark.bateyXhI's avatar
For anyone else who's bought it, has it shipped for anyone? It's still just 'Processing' for me, I'm unfamiliar with Costco shipping so I wasn't sure.

Does anybody know if I can defenestrate this and put Linux on?
    deanjohnson666's avatar
You could do, but I would suggest putting a HyperVisor onto it and run Linux as a VM
  32. bmehboob's avatar
How would this compare as a gaming laptop and bang for your buck?

The discussion regarding the two laptops are already above. Have a read.

Legion and IdeaPad are not the same level. Legion is more premium, higher price product line. Bigger in size, heavier, better made, better vertilation. More suited for gaming.

And between the two, the Legion has better GPU than the IdeaPad.

In my opinion, the Legion is well worth the £100 higher price over IdeaPad. (edited)
