Decent device, I've had it as a work device since 2021 and the battery health is around 85% after daily usage (8 hours a day 5 days a week) for anybody wondering. Does the trick and has no fan which is a plus (edited)

Seems like a lot of money for a 4 yr old used laptop.

Compare that with their current line up m2 costs £999 and m3 costs £1099 it’s less than half the price and performance will be less noticeable for majority of people who use it for browsing and work. If you need a machine to edit or photoshop then you will be looking at a pro. I bought the m1 air for £620 brand new from very last year and it’s served me well for my needs. M2 is also 20% faster than the m1 which just doesn’t seem much of a reason to blow double the money. M1 has better audio because with the m2 they moved the speaker between display and keyboard. The other feature is the ssd speed, the m2 ssd speed is 50% slower than the m1 I think Apple decided to put a better ssd on the m1 as it was their first MacBook with their own silicon but have gone back to limiting lower tiers making you upgrade to the bigger storage drives etc. this MacBook is perfect for most people and will last many years to come

Just to put this deal into perspective (as this model is older) , I got a 2022 M2 Air 3 weeks ago Used 'Acceptable' for £723

Came in perfect condition, 5 battery cycles. As close to 'like New' as you can get. They really do not grade the items properly. Order a like new and you might get a 1997 windows laptop but go for Acceptable and it might come shrink wrapped!

    It's worth a punt! 😁

How “like new” is such a device from Amazon likely to be? Are they as good as eg Apple in that department?
    Anya94's avatar
I bought my macbook air back in 2019 in very good and it was new. the only thing that was that the outer box was a bit damaged but the computer is good

Best laptop Apple have made in years.
Battery life is literally all day, had mine for 2 years and still great.
    TerryT's avatar
Same boat, only 4 years and the battery is still no object; I’m never finding myself racing to top it up to get something done.
  6. Haircut_100's avatar
This is actually the same price that I paid for a Used one from Amazon in November 2021 when they had a 20% off Warehouse items event (and it only had a couple of cycles on it). It’s still a fantastic laptop but seeing as it’s a few years old now you’d maybe hope the price was just a little bit lower.
    dan1w's avatar
And how much were you earning in 2021, compared to now?
  7. windym's avatar
It's a lottery. You may get more you may get less (than advertised). Whatever it is, you can be sure you will get grief and stress if you have to remedy anything.

Some things in life are not worth the hassle *unless you really cannot afford something at the price it should be.

    This is one.

Wow. I’m a tech enthusiast, fairly fussy about performance in motion / graphics software like Adobe ae, davinci resolve, photoshop and this is my favourite laptop ever for working on the go.

The M1 is a game changer in many ways; thermals, performance, battery. This much capability (if that form factor is desirable) is such an incredible deal. This price point puts very solid hardware in the hands of many.
  9. general_holding's avatar
Got one almost two years ago for this price and it's probably been the best ever tech purchase. Defo worth it
  10. Enterpart's avatar
this deal has 7 core GPU, compared to M3 8 core GPU.
M3 has 1080p camera compared to this 720p
    m3 has slightly bigger screen
500 nits compared to 400 nits
5.4percent bigger batter. also being brand new means full battery. so say you have 10% battery degredatino on the m1 air , you have basically 15% longer battery. also the M3 must be using a better proccess node so you get more savings from that too
-4 speakers comapred to two speakers on m1
-on m3 you get Voice Isolation and Wide Spectrum mic modes
    -MagSafe 3
and this is a brand new laptop compared to a used, being used you are taking a gamble, it might have issues that pop up after a year.
and the previous person had a point. You'd be lucky to get £100 for this in 4 years. so cost of ownership is 500/4=125 per year
you should get 600 back for m3 AND have an easier time selling it. so cost of ownership is
    400/4=100 per year.

say you got £200 for m1 in 4 years (200 for 8 year old laptop would be insane 20%, highly doubtable) so now it's same cost of ownership as m3, while m3 is brand new. much better cpu and gpu, better screen, magsafe, much better battery life, 1080p wecam, better speakers, other improvments too and guarenteed to get updates for 6 years I'd say. can't guarentee you'll get 4 years update for m1.

this is a terrible deal. I'd even wait for christmas to get even better deal (edited)

And I sold mine "like new" to Cex for £522 and that was 16gb and 512gb after failing to get any real buyers from FB marketplace.
I wish there was a better platform to directly deal with real people who are in need, and then these companies (and their platform fee) can be avoided.

    Ebay?

At this point, these should be even cheaper.

Cex Grade C is not comparable to this.

Daughter has one of these from new, bought September 2020. The screen has just failed (faulty, external screen works fine) and the battery needs replacing. Been quoted £550 for the two.

There's a guy on YouTube that is bga soldering 16GB in them. Storage I am not sure about, should be as "easy"

Seems a lot of heat for an average deal.
    TerryT's avatar
What is comparible? I’m quite an Apple geek and watch these closely, it seems like an outlier/particularly good/warranted heat. Happy to stand corrected if I’m wrong. (edited)
  18. donmixes85's avatar
The 2024 macbook air is 1001£ i dont get this why so hot.
    TerryT's avatar
Because this is 40% cheaper and 99% the experience at most tasks in comparison to the M3 air.

What's Nvidia / Ati GPU equivalent on this? Can this even be considered for light gaming
    DanRea's avatar
For games that are supported on Mac OS this can do pretty well playing games, for example I tested Dying Light through Steam and I was able to lock it down to near 60 FPS with some tweaks to settings. Native resolution is a no go but not neccessary. The main issue is a lot of games don't have native Mac ports.
  24. radek999's avatar
What about warranty? Same for very good and like new?
  25. northerngeek's avatar
I agree with TerryT. those buying the latest model will see big decpreciation. just like those who bought Tesla cars only yo see the company drop prices.

These specs are crazy in 2024, I bought a macbook as a present for someone over 10 yrs ago now and it had the same spec as this, where's the progress?

Their latest ad crushing a piano etc shows just how much apple has lost its way, even apple fanboys have had enough
    rapscalli's avatar
An m1 MacBook 10 years ago? I think not!
  28. Viperex's avatar
Remember when this was almost a grand, glad to see m1 being a little bit more affordable!!
